TYPE OF TEXT IN WRITING
Writing????
If we hear this word, we think that we share our opinion, creativity in word
and sentence. That’s right. There are many texts that can be written like
narrative, report, spoof, etc. So, know I will give you short explanation about
kinds of text.
1.
RECOUNT
DEFINITION:
Recount
is a text which retells events or experiences in the past. Its purpose is
either to inform or to entertain the audience.
GENERIC
STRUCTURE:
1. Orientation : introducing the participant,
place, and time. (tells who was involved, what happened, where the event took
place, and when it happened)
2. Events : Describing series of event
that happened in the past (tell what happened in what sequence).
3. Re-orientation : it is optional. Consist of ending of
the story or comment of the writer to the story.

My Adolescence
I
had my adolescence when I was thirteen.
It started with acne that showed up on my face. It was very annoying. It lowered my self-esteem and I was embarrassed to come out of my house and play with friends.
Fortunately,
my Mum gave me a good medicine. In three weeks, the acnes started to vanish
although those showed some black spots in my face.
That was my bad experience with adolescence, though there were still lots of good experience too |
2. DESCRIPTIVE
DEFINITION
& PURPOSE:
Descriptive
text is a text which says what a person or a thing is like and to describe and
reveal a particular person, place, or thing.
GENERIC
STRUCTURE:
1. Identification : identifies phenomenon to be described
2. Description :
Describes parts,
qualities, characteristics, etc.

She loves being in the Church, and she loves sing and dance too. She is a very good child, wife and mother. She always takes care of her family. She likes her house to be clean and organized. Monument National
The
National Monument (or Monument Nasional) is a 132 meters tower in the center of Merdeka Square, Central
Jakarta. It symbolizes the fight for Indonesia’s independence. The monument
consist of a 117,7 m obelisk on a 45 m square platform at a height of 17 m.
The
towering monument symbolizes the philosophy of Lingga and Yoni. Lingga
resembles, rice pestle (alu) and Yoni resembles a mortar rice (lesung), two
important items in Indonesian agricultural tradition.
The
construction began in 1961 under the direction of President Soekarno and the
monument was opened to the public in 1975. It is topped by a flame covered
with gold foil. The monument and museum is opened daily from 08.00 – 15.00
every day throughout the week, except for the last Monday of the month the
monument is closed.

PROCEDURE
DEFINITION
& PURPOSE:
The
purpose procedural text is to tell the reader how to do or make something. The
information is presented in a logical sequence of events which is broken up
into small sequenced steps. The most common example of a procedural text is a
recipe.
GENERIC
STRUCTURE:
1) Goal/aim
( or title)
Goal is title of the text.
2) Materials
(not required for all procedural texts
Materials is the tool or anything which
needed in the process in the steps
3) Steps
(the actions that must be taken)
Step
is ways, methods, or what you should do.

command: put the noodles…, cut the chilly…, wash the tomatoes…, etc.

chronological connection: then, first, second, third, finally, etc.

REPORT

Report is a text which presents information about something, as it is. It is as a result of systematic observation and analysis

Thanksgiving day
Thanksgiving
or Thanksgiving Day is a celebration of harvest, thankfulness for peace, and
the attempt of Native Americans. It is usually celebrated in late
autumn.
In
the past, Thanksgiving was celebrated for their rich harvest in New England.
In North America, however, it was originally held to thank God for their
survival in the new land which was not easy for them. However, in Canada, it
had been celebrated as in New England. Thanksgiving now is celebrated in
United States of America and in Canada. Thanksgiving festivals are held every
fourth Thursday of November in the U.S and on the second Monday of October in
Canada. It is usually celebrated in four to five days in the North America
and for three days in Canada.
It
is celebrated through families and friends gathering to eat and give good
luck. Turkey is the main dish in the thanksgiving dinner. Thanksgiving
parades are also usually held. In Thanksgiving homes are decorated with
wreaths, fresh and dried flowers. Lamps are lighted to brighten the
environment. Tables are decorated with best china and antique silver dishes
to mark the occasion.

NARRATIVE
DEFINITION:
A
narrative text is an imaginative story to entertain the readers.
GENERIC STRUCTURE:
1. Orientation: It is about the opening paragraph where the
characters of the story are introduced. (Sets the scene: where and when
the story happened and introduces the participants of the story: who and what
is involved in the story.)
2. Complication: Where the problems in the story developed.
(Tells the beginning of the problems which leads to the crisis (climax) of the
main participants.)
3. Resolution: Where
the problems in the story is solved. (The problem (the crisis) is
resolved, either in a happy ending or in a sad (tragic) ending)
4. Re-orientation/Coda: This is a
closing remark to the story and it is optional. It consists of a
moral lesson, advice or teaching from the
writer

The
Legend of Surabaya
The Legend of
Surabaya A long time ago in East Java there were two strong animals, Sura and
Baya. Sura was a shark and Baya was a crocodile. Actually they were friend,
but when they were hungry, they were very greedy and did not want to share
their food. They fought for it and never stop.
One day Sura and Baya
were looking some food, but they did not want to share and they fought again.
After several hours Sura and Baya had plan to stop their fought, Sura live
and look for food in sea, and Baya live and look for food on land.
But one day, Sura
went to the land and look for food in the river. Baya was angry when he knew
that Sura was broke the promise. Than Sura and Baya fought again and finally
Sura was gave up and he went back to the sea.
People then always
talked about the fought between Sura and Baya. They named the place of the
fought as Surabaya, it’s from Sura the shark and Baya the crocodile. People
also put their fought as the symbol as Surabaya City.
